About Pastoral Care

St. Luke’s provides confidential Pastoral Care without judgement by offering support, caring and compassion to anyone in our church or community who is open to receiving this expression of our faith. To inform the church of pastoral needs you may call the minister at 902-233-3256 or email rickgunn@stlukesunited.ca, or email the Team Lead for Pastoral Care at pastoralcare@stlukesunited.ca.

Caring

The Pastoral Care Ministry marks milestones in people’s lives by extending congratulations in our Celebration portion of the Church@Work and during the announcements.

Cards are sent on special birthdays, anniversaries, births and other noteworthy occasions. We depend on the congregation to let us know of times in people’s lives that we want to share with the congregation so that many may join in their celebration.

Cards are sent in to those who are sick, those recovering from an operation, and, to our shut-ins at special times of the year.

To have a card sent to someone, contact Rev. Rick (info above).

Home Visits

Our shut-ins and those who are in local nursing homes are visited in person by our minister or members of our Pastoral Care Team.

In between visits, our Telephone Ministry extends a caring call on behalf of the congregation, just to keep in touch.

Hospital Visits

A member of our Pastoral Care Ministry checks in at the hospital regularly.

When you or a loved one enters the hospital, we ask that you indicate your denomination as United Church. That way, you end up on the Pastoral Care Lists.

With such short hospital stays these days, it is important to let us know when you or someone you love is admitted. A call to the Church Office or the Minister alerts us to your need for a visit and for prayers.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

There are many moments in life when people need to feel God’s love physically embrace them.  There are many people who lovingly knit or crochet prayer shawls for people of all ages.  If you know someone who is going through a difficult time who might find peace and comfort in a shawl, or someone celebrating something wonderful like a newborn baby, please email our coordinator Lillian at lfcrant@gmail.com

Prayer List

Our Prayer List is included in the Church@Work each week. You can also add someone to the Prayer List by phoning the Church or emailing office@stlukesunited.ca.

Anna's Prayer Circle

Those on our Prayer List, as well as those who have indicated they wish to be prayed for but do not want to be named in the Church@Work or in Worship, are prayed for daily by the members of Anna’s Prayer Circle. When there is an urgent and immediate need for prayer, the Circle members are contacted.

If you wish to be prayed for by Anna’s Prayer Circle, please email annascircle@stlukesunited.ca. Share as much or as little information as you like. Only the prayer circle coordinator will see your original request.
